Monte Carlo simulations of lipid membranes and their interactions with copolymers

Ankush Checkervarty

Short Bio

Ankush has a keen interest in using computer simulations, numerical methods and analytical tools of statistical physics to solve the physics of the problems. He holds a BS-MS Dual Degree in Physics from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali, India. During this time through his various internships he has learned many techniques which use C++ and MATLAB to solve problems in quantum optics(EIT and CPT), fluid mechanics ( viscosity measurement using a webcam)  and soft condensed matter (a molecular Simulation for L-J fluid). In his master thesis project he has studied the phase transitions of Active Brownian particles by simulating them using C++ codes and using MATLAB to visualize the system dynamics.

He is starting his PhD at Leibniz-Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden, Germany. His work will be aimed at developing a more profound theory for the interactions between copolymers and lipid membranes using analytical and computational tools.

  • ESR3-D: Monte Carlo simulations of lipid membranes and their interactions with copolymers

Theoretical physics, theory in soft matter, computer simulations Contact Ankush Checkervarty Objectives The challenge of this project is to rationalize the inter effective interactions between amphiphilic copolymers and self-organized lipid bilayer membranes using coarse-grained Monte Carlo methods: Analyze the effect of many copolymers interacting with a fluctuating membrane Finding copolymer sequences which match particular tasks such as increasing permeation or disruption Simulating membranes ...
