Toxicity of nano-objects on human cells models

Andre Dias

Short Bio

André Dias is currently pursuing a PhD at the FORM lab at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main in collaboration with the REPAIR-lab in Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. His research project focuses on the study of the interactions between nanoparticles synthesized by the network and actual human cell models. André obtained his B.Sc. in Biochemistry at the University of Porto with an emphasis on nanoparticle synthesis and functionalization. He then proceeded to his M.Sc. in Biophysics and Bionanosystems at University of Minho. André undertook his graduation project at the NanoScience Center from the University of Copenhagen as part of the Erasmus Placemant program. During this time, he was able to expand his experience of surface functionalization techniques and protein immobilization on two- and three-dimensional micro- and nanostructures. He was later awarded a research scholarship at Instituto Pedro Nunes where he broadened his experience to electrochemical analysis of enzyme biosensors. His current area of interest is the interaction of nanostructures with human cells and how these structures can be used to improve or develop novel techniques for diagnostics or therapeutics.
